PCD,s cooperation with Asia-Pacific Region
on safety of chemical and waste management
Pollution Control Department (PCD) attended the Asia-Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for 2017 BRS COP in order to prepare and discuss on safety of chemical and waste management in regional forum as well as to protect health and environment. This is one of a sustainable development factor. Now, PCD is implementing activities under related strategies and plans on chemical and waste management.
On 6 March 2017, Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Director General of Pollution Control Department, joined in honor and made a statement on Asia-Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for 2017 BRS COPs which was held on 6-8 March 2017 at the United Nations Conference Centre, Bangkok, Thailand. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare and discuss regional position for the 13th Meeting of the conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention, the 8th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention and the 8th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention. These meeting will be held on 27 April to 5 May 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Mr. Jatuporn said Thailand pays attention for safety of Chemical and Waste management that focus on the health and environment, which are the conduction for sustainable development. It is in the process of implementing relevant national plans and strategies. Also, Implementation of the obligations for the 3 Conventions of the Parties and preparation for the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury. Moreover, Mr. Jatuporn required the objective achievement formatted, especially, the issues that cannot be reached in the State Party convention in previous meeting such as the compliance procedures under the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention and Stockholm Convention and list of forbidden chemicals in Rotterdam Convention.
There were 140 participants from 40 countries. Mr. Suwan Nanthasarut, Deputy Director General of Pollution Control Department and officer from Waste and Hazardous Substance Management Bureau attended the meeting as a representative of the country.
