Pollution Control Department announced new Air Quality Index (AQI)
and launched new version of Air4Thai application

Ms. Sunee Piyapanpong, Director General of Pollution Control Department (PCD) announced to use new air quality index that add particulate matter diameter sized less than 2.5 micron (PM2.5)in calculation. New version of Air4Thai application was launched in order to facilitate people who interested in following air quality situation continuously. Then they can protect themselvesimmediately when air pollution occurred.

Ms. Sunee said PCD has emphasized on air pollution management, particularly PM2.5 that can absorbed into the respiratory system and blood stream. The standard of PM2.5in atmosphere was defined in 2010 and monitored continuously. Currently, monitoring of PM2.5 is included in28 stations in 19 provinces and will be expanded to all stations in 2020.

PCD has updated new air quality index by added PM2.5 in calculation. Then new air quality index will calculate6 air pollutants concentrate which are particulate matter diameter sized less than 10 micron (PM10), PM2.5, carbonmonoxide (CO), ozone (O3), nitrogenoxide (NOx), and sulferdioxide (SO2). The highest of each air pollutants concentrate become air quality index at that time. The 5 levels and color symbols of air quality index are excellent level (blue), good level (green), fair level (yellow), being to have health impact level (orange), and have health impact level (red). Those level are compared with air quality standard in atmosphere of Thailand and health impact from research and WHO report.

Since October 2018, PCD will launch the website: http://Air4Thai.pcd.go.th and the new version of Air4Thai application on android and iOS systems. The website and application will showThailand?s air quality index from 6 air pollutants concentrate in order to facilitate people who interestedin following air quality situation including PM2.5in each hour. Then they can protect themselves immediatelyifthere is crisis of air pollution.
