Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment did lesson learned on solving haze problem in the North in 2018, reiterated agencies to integrate in working seamlessly for sustainable success
On 14 June 2018, at Phitsanulok province, General Surasak Kanchanarat, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment presided over the Workshop on Summarizing in Prevention and Solving Haze Problem in the North (After Action Review: AAR) in 2018. Third Army Area Commander, Governor of Phitsanulok province, Governor of Phayao province, representatives from Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Bureau of the Budget and related agencies in 9 Northern Provinces attended in the workshop. General Surasak said thank you to Ministry of Interior, the main agencies that worked hard on solving haze problem and integrated with all sectors under the mechanism of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550 (2007), including governors? single command to all units in reconnaissance and detection of forest fire and burning. The mobilization among Third Army Area Command, polices, volunteer networks, Department of National Parks Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, Royal Forest Department and Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation were taken on forest firefighting as well as providing the excellent village award and the law enforcement with offenders. In addition, provinces pointed out risk areas or villages from the statistics of forest fire situation in order to prevent burning. Moreover, implementation on mitigation measures of fire burning has been taken into account to change fire burner to civil network in fire protection, provide financial support and survival equipment in the forest from private sectors, support technical information from academic institutions, develop application on fire hot spot to communicate and monitor fire burning. These will enhance performance of Pollution Control Department staff and Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization) to monitor and stay alert on reporting information to continually and promptly cope with forest fire and haze problem. Cooperation with all sectors is the main factor to make success solution in hot spots and particulate matter decreasing from 2015 until now. Additionally, General Surasak also thanked mass media in reporting forest fire situation and blaming people who burned forests and made right values to public in order to preserve natural resources and environment. Mrs. Sunee Piyapanpong, Director General of Pollution Control Department said the Department stayed alert and monitor haze problem continually from 1 January to 31 May 2018 every year in 9 Northern provinces. In 2018, each province in the 9 Northern provinces had announced the prohibition burning period. Tak province and Chiang Rai province were earlier announced during 10 February to 10 April 2018. Mea Hong Son province was the latest, during 1 Mach to 31 April 2018. During 1 January to 31 May 2018, particulate matter (PM10) from monitoring stations in 9 Northern provinces revealed that measured in 24-hour the highest average of PM10 was at 233 ?g/m3 in Ban Dong, Mae Mo district, Lampang province (7 Mach 2018), while number of day that PM10 over standard was totally 19 days in Tak province. Phayao province is the only one province that PM10 was within the standard. Hot spots accumulation situation in 9 Northern provinces during 1 January to 31 May 2018 was at 4,717 hot spots, decreased by 13% compared with 5,418 hot spots in 2017. This year, Tak province had the highest number of hot spots at 1,377, Mea Hong Son province at 915, and Chang Mai province at 650, respectively.
